Chiweenie Puppies
Facts about Chiweenie Puppies
In a world of designer pets, there are many new hybrid crosses that are continually being developed, such as chiweenie puppies, to meet the demand of the fad. It is important to realize that hybrid crosses are not breeds, simply crosses of different breeds resulting in a mixed cross. This fact is important because the mixed cross result may not carry on the desirable characteristics of the parental breeds.
Nature has almost always provided a means of developing alternative crosses of dogs. When the ancestry of the resulting puppies is in doubt, the dogs are referred to as “mutts”. So called designer dogs are the product of two parents of distinct and documented purebred status. The breeders take into consideration the characteristics, traits and temperaments of the two breeds to attempt the most congenial match. Numerous varieties of hybrid dogs are now available because of the interest they have attracted in the pet community.
Specific pureblood dogs are chosen to achieve the desired characteristics of a hybrid cross. In the case of chiweenie puppies, the parentage is a Chihuahua and a Dachshund mix. When a potential pet owner is interested in obtaining a chiweenie, it is first beneficial to learn about each of the parental breeds. A Chihuahua is one of the most popular of the toy breeds, and the smallest of all. They originated in Mexico, and their physical makeup continues to be one of a warm weather breed. Their coats can be either quite short and wiry or long and soft. Enjoying warmth and cozy cuddling, the Chihuahua is a wonderful dog for someone who prefers a lap pet. They are fiercely loyal to their human, forming incredibly close bonds that result in the pet greatly suffering from separation anxiety. They are not typically associated as the best choice as a pet for children, yet with the proper training early in life, Chihuahuas can actually be quite good with kids especially with adult intervention.
The other half of the ancestry is that of the Dachshund. Friendly, personable and lovable, these short legged yet long bodied canines were bred for hunting badgers in their native land of Germany. The dogs are great pets with individuals, families and even children with good training and supervision. Dachshund can be shorthaired or longhaired.
Each breed has its own specific detriments, as well, especially in health concerns. While quite a healthy and long lived breed, Chihuahuas can encounter bouts of hypoglycemia, knee injuries, eye problems, leg fractures, soft spots on the top of the head, and mouth problems. Dachshunds are prone to back injuries with disc diseases, urinary tract issues and heart disease.
The best traits of a chiweenie puppy will ideally exemplify the most positive characteristics of each parental ancestry. There is no way to guarantee, however, the genetic physiology that will actually be presented. They will be small in size, since both the dam and the sire are of small stature. Because both breeds are affectionate and loyal, the chiweenie will also inherit these traits. The best hybrid dogs result from highly comparable characteristics of the parents, and the Chihuahua and the Dachshund are quite similar. In appearance, there are no surefire methods of forecasting which physical traits the puppy will acquire. Potential health issues may be problematic, as well, since it is largely unknown which traits will be passed on to the offspring. As with any designer dog, it is vital to only deal with reputable breeders who can document and prove the heritage and ancestry of the parent dogs.
Prepare to love your new pet chiweenie; puppies in general are always loveable and adorable. Do research and carefully choose a breeder that you trust, but keep in mind that there is no mathematical solution to the characteristics and traits that a hybrid puppy will have.
