Jug Puppies
A Quick Guide to Jug Puppies
Jug Puppies are fairly new entrants to this world and they are hybrid dogs bred by bringing together a Jack Russell Terrier and a Pug. These dogs are not considered purebred and are sometimes called designer dogs. Jack Russell Terrier and Pug will be represented variedly in different Jug Puppies as it is not always a 50 percent representation of each breed. As breeders do multi-generational cross-breeding, there are varying dominant characteristics depending on how much of each parent breed is represented. So, if your Jug Puppy is 60 percent Pug and 40 percent Jack Russell Terrier, it will be very different from a Jug Puppy which is 75 percent Jack Russell Terrier and 25 percent Pug. So, a Jug Puppy, much like other designer dogs, is a bit of an adventure for a dog owner because you cannot quite predict much about the appearance or the temperament of your dog when it matures. However, we can get an idea of what you may expect, by getting more thoroughly acquainted with the two parent breeds.
Jack Russell Terriers are often described as energetic dogs full of personality. Despite the size of the dog, there is little about the dog that is timid or withdrawn. Jack Russell Terriers are true bundles of energy and attitude. The breed is said to be named after a famous hunter of the 19th century called Parson Jack Russell and was initially trained to be a hunting dog that would track but not kill. Jack Russell Terriers are between 10 to 15 inches in height to the shoulder and 12 to 14 inches long. Its coat is smooth and its color is white or white with some colored markings. This breed does have a narrow and shallow chest which adds to the athletic image of the dog.
Jack Russell Terriers should be appropriately trained to get the most out of their personality and a well-trained dog of this breed will make for an engaging companion. These dogs are considered great family pets. Jack Russell Terrier is not a good dog for a household with multiple pets or even multiple breeds as their aggressiveness comes out in these interactions. Given, this Terrier’s hunting roots he likes to dig around and bark and so owners are usually advised to make sure that there is plenty of natural outlet for these instincts and in that sense a home with yard to run around in is a good fit for him. There is little special grooming or maintenance needed for this breed.
The Pug is a dog that was originally bred in China and it is said that this breed has been around for over 1000 years. These are small dogs which were imported into England via Holland. The Pug is a well-balanced, compact and muscular dog which packs a lot of energy and intensity in its small body. A typical Pug weighs anywhere from 14 to 18 pounds. The Pug has a distinctive short curled tail and its face with the interesting wrinkles is the other easily recognized feature of this breed. The wrinkled look of the face comes from the loose skin of the Pug which has a double coat with one outer coat which has a sheen, and an undercoat which is fine. These dogs are their best are pictures of strength and purpose with their strong muscles and straight legs. The Pug makes for a great family pet because it is even-tempered and gets along well with humans. It is considered an easy dog to take care off as it needs a moderate amount of activity. It does well in apartments and condominiums also.
Given these facts, Jug puppies are likely to be small dogs with a friendly temperament. They can have the feisty personality of the Jack Russell Terrier or the more laid-back personality of the Pug. There can be some variation in their coat appearance also depending on the actual parents of the Jug. It is likely to be an active and athletic dog.
